...Golden's 2006 Buffalo Bill Days
is just a memory but what a fun time it was!
- The golfers were really tested by the course at Fossil Trace with the team from Affordable Sprinkler Systems taking home the Challenge Trophy
- The food. arts/crafts, and merchandise vendors did very well; in fact, some did very well indeed. Vendors were given the option to sign up for the 2007 event and many have already done so
- The Muttin' Busting contest was sold out again this year ; this event is very popular with the kids and the riders are determined to HOLD ON TIGHT - no sheep is going to get the best of them!!
- There was a good-size crowd watching the Wild West Show with the demonstrations of gun twirling, trick shooting, horse tricks, roping and bull whip. "Buffalo Bill" and "Annie Oakley" made their appearances as well as a number of gunslingers who were facing off with an equal number of "good citizens from Golden"
- There were cars, CARS, and more CARS - old, unique, fancy and "hot"-these shows are drawing a lot of interest from car owners and car aficionados alike.
- The parade continues to draw a big crowd; in fact spectators were staking out their favorite spots on the avenue at 6:30 AM-nearly 4 hours before the parade started!! Parade entrants were exclaiming at the size of the crowd along the main street and also along the side streets - a LOT of people were in town. The parade continues to get more "competitive" as entrants vie for one of the silver plate awards. Some of the entries never fail to surprise the spectators with their unique and/or hilarious entries and it is always the big question---WHAT are they going to do THIS year!!
- One of the most favorite attractions, if you ask the kids, are the games and mechanical and inflatable rides-just for them!! Additionally, the kiddies loved the LiL" Spike train and thanks to sponsor monies, the train rides were free.
- The entertainment was spectacular - and always FREE!!
Chris Daniels & the Kings - WOWED the crowd again this year; in fact, nobody wanted to leave when their set was over!! The crowd, comprised of all age groups, would have let the band play on and one and ON regardless of BBD having to close down the park for the night!!
Brethren Fast with their own unique style and every, was a favorite of the younger crowd.
Runaway Express - with their large music repertoire, is always an enjoyable time.
Other locals favorites who also performed are Sons of the 'Burbs, Blu Jazz, Route 66 along with Denver favorites, Burgundy Brown, Pairadeux, and the percussion group, HeadTalk.
Next year's event is scheduled for JULY 25-29, 2007 and information on that event will soon be forthcoming.
But, in the meantime, BBD invites you to participate in two other events that this committee organizes, namely, the COWBOY CHRISTMAS BALL, a traditional Western social, which takes place in December, and BUFFALO BILL'S BIRTHDAY BASH, a gathering of re-enactors and history buffs, which takes place in February.
